A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot and killed in her sleep in Old East Dallas early Tuesday, police said.
The shooting took place at around 2:20 a.m. in the 3200 block of Reynolds Avenue near Dolphin Road south of Interstate 30.
The victim, Crystal Rodriguez, was slapped in the back while sleeping in her bedroom, police said. Dallas Fire Rescue took her to a hospital where she died.
Police said it was a drive-by shoot-out, but no description of the vehicle involved or any possible suspect was available.
Rodriguez’s mother, Crystal Vital, said her daughter was a “good girl” who graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School in Pleasant Grove last spring and dreamed of becoming a flight attendant.
Vital said the shots were so loud that morning she thought the shot came from inside the house. When she went to check on her daughter, she said Crystal was bleeding “all over” and had a single gunshot wound in the back.
Vital advocated that anyone with information should call the authorities.
“She didn’t deserve what happened to her,” she said. “Whoever did this, I want them to pay with their life.”
